BIO

Guy Poppy, Professor and UKRI Director of the Transforming the UK food system programme at the University of Southampton, has pioneered the application of planetary/environmental health to public health as exemplified in food system research. Key research investigated insect behaviour using harmonic radar and how human activities disrupt environmental services such as how air pollution affects insect pollination. Guy’s expertise at the interface between a healthy environment and humans especially in food systems, led to appointment as the FSA's first Chief Scientific Adviser. His CSA reports have had considerable impact on human health and wellbeing on key issues ranging from AMR to Big data and Whole Genome Sequencing through to the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
